About Angie Boothroyd MA(RCA)

Angie Boothroyd Portrait

Angie Boothroyd has been creating her own unique style of contemporary designer jewellery since she first set up her London workshop in 2001. Her aim was to create a new gold aesthetic, to offer precious jewellery that was relaxed enough to wear every day, yet luxurious enough to make you feel special. Since then, she has quietly won over jewellery fans of all ages and backgrounds with her understated yet opulent style.

Each piece of Angie Boothroyd jewellery is hand crafted to the highest standard, using a combination of age-old goldsmithing techniques and cutting-edge technology. Only golds of 18 carat and above are used, in a distinctive range of colours encompassing the spectrum of yellow, rose, and even green golds. These rich hues, shimmering with luscious surface textures, come together in her range of refreshingly light and modern, yet timeless, designs.

Angie has exhibited her work at some of Europe’s most prestigious fairs such as Goldsmiths’ Fair in London, and Kara in Paris. She is also proud to be a Lonmin Design Innovation Award winner for 2009. She has also taught jewellery making at a variety of institutions as well as business skills for jewellery designers. Her work has appeared in many books and magazines, and she has written two books for A&C Black Publishers, the second of which is due out in April 2012.

Born and raised in California, Angie came to London in 1994 as a graphic designer. The allure of fire and metal soon took hold and what started as a part-time metals course led to a place on the Jewellery HND at London Guildhall University. Combining this technical foundation with her natural talent and design experience, she went on to win place on the Jewellery MA course at the Royal College of Art, where she studied under the tutelage of Professor David Watkins.

Upon completion of her MA in 2001, Angie set up her workshop at Cockpit Arts, Holborn, with the help of a Crafts Council Setting Up Grant and a Cockpit Arts Seedbed Award. Her earliest pieces were sold by Europe’s most important galleries such as Galerie Marzee in the Netherlands, and both Electrum and Lesley Craze in London. To keep pace with rising demand, Angie soon expanded from creating unique, one-off pieces to producing more widely available jewellery ranges, all the while refining the craft techniques and design methods she had spent years cultivating.

Currently residing on a Dutch Barge on the Grand Union Canal, Angie now divides her time between her two passions - making jewellery and making music. A talented multi-instrumentalist, she began learning the violin as an adult and now plays fiddle in several American-style roots music bands.
