Angie Boothroyd's “Chameleon” Necklace at Goldsmiths’ Fair

"Chameleon" necklace by Angie Boothroyd

Angie Boothroyd is renowned for her innovative use of multicoloured golds. Never before, though, has she shown so much skill and sensitivity in her use of colour and texture as with this stunning necklace. Incorporating 18 different hues of 18 carat gold to create a smooth gradation of shimmering golden hues, this is surely the most sublime piece that Boothroyd has created to date.

The piece started its life as nuggets of 24 carat gold, which were alloyed down to 18 carat by mixing them with pure silver and copper. The key alloys were made (green, yellow, red, and white) and these were then mixed together to create "secondary" alloys to blend between them. This process was continued until a smooth gradation was achieved. Boothroyd then cut out the 400+ components and then textured, shaped, and assembled them by hand.

The necklace will be available for sale at Goldsmiths' Fair.
